Analyzing SCMS 10

I came across an interesting article on the demographics for 2009 United States Marathon Runners (MarathonGuide) and attempted to analyze our SINGAPOREAN timings using SCMS 10 results*.

As this is my first attempt, pls give me any constructive comments so that I can improve my analysis.

No of Runners Participated

A total of 12,965 Singaporean took part in the race.

Only 12,097 runners (94%) completed the race. 10,291 of the runners were male while 1,806 of them were female.

Unfortunately, 868 runners (6%) did not finish the race or were disqualified. 693 were  males and 175 were females.

For Male, the average timing to complete the marathon is in the range of 6:00 to 6:30hr.
For Female, the average timing to complete the marathon is in the range of 6:30 to 7:00hr.

* Data used for the computations were from SCMS official race timing.

SCMS 2010 - First Times for the Race

Many unforgettable First Times I experienced during this Race. Just to share with all :)

  • First Time I ran a marathon with a pair of minimalist shoe (Vibram Five Fingers - Sprint).
  • First Time I 'smelled the flowers' and enjoy the entire race (What I meant was that I was able to chit-chat with fellow runners; interact with the 5hr 30min pacers; and thanked the cheerleaders along the route.).
  • First Time I felt so energetic and was free from aches/pain/blisters after the run.
  • First Time I was overtaken by the chicken-man just before the end point. :(
  • First Time I never hit the wall throughout the race.
  • First Time I trained hard and broke my Personal Best from 6hr 44min to 5hr 30min (official timings was 5:33:24).

    • And First Time I don't feel anxious or pressure one night before the race. :D

SCMS - A slow runner Journey to marathon.

I am ready for Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore tomorrow.

Thinking back, I am always a  'snail' runner. (i.e. struggled to pass fitness test and clocked 7 hrs for past 2 FMs) and have never done well for any runs.

At the beginning of 2010, I set myself a target that I must participate and  complete the 2010 marathon within 6 hrs. Since then I had been training real hard, I even lost abt 10kg from the training and got gold for my fitness test. But still,  I think that completed it within 6 hr remains to be a big challenge to me..........

Anyway,  I have only clocked about 760km worth of training since Jan 10 (Unfortunately, the mileages from Apr - Jul are missing as I did not logged it down).....

Some long distances that I had clocked are,
    - 01 x 36 km
    - 03 x 30 km
    - 01 x 26 km
    - 07 x 20/21km
    - 05 x 15/16km
    - 12 x10 km

Pls wish me luck as I need lots of it to attempt to clock my personnel best for the Marathon tomorrow.
